Kenya 2009 - Nairobi

The Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi is run by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Orphaned elephants, some only a few months old, are hand reared until they can be introduced into the Trust's herd in Tsavo National Park and gradually rehabilitated back into the wild elephant community in the park, a process usually taking 8 to 10 years. The facility is open to visitors for an hour a day.

For more photos of the babies (and some of Nairobi and environs) visit the Slideshow or Nairobi Album.
